I have been a piano technician since 1972 and a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) with the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) since 1999. Becoming a registered technician involves passing three days worth of testing in the area of tuning by ear, regulation the action, and doing repairs. There are about 2500 RPTs in the world. About 15 RPTs work in the Denver Metro area and about 7 in the Colorado Springs area.
MY SERVICE AREA INCLUDES BOTH CITIES AND AREAS IN BETWEEN such as Castle Rock Larkspur, Parker and Elizabeth.
I am a University technician as well, having served Metro State in Denver since 2000, which has an inventory of almost 40 pianos that need weekly care. I also service the expansive Aurora School district with an inventory of over 50 pianos. I service residential customers from beginning piano players to advanced, including several piano teachers. The advanced pianist is often interested in other services besides tuning, such as voicing, climate control and regulation. These services are explained in more detail in the above tab Piano Q & A. I have an extensive music background with a Music Degree from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and a Masters in conducting from UNC in Greeley, Colorado. Prior to going on the road full time as a piano technician in 1999, I was a professor of voice at Azusa Pacific University in southern California and a Minister of Music for over 20 years with churches in Texas and Colorado.
My wife is the founder of Kids Music Playground, a private music school in Colorado Springs which offers ground keyboard instruction for young children ages 4-6. More information can be found at her website: www.kidsmusicplayground.net
